This is another personal project I do in my spare time. I like robots.
This is another 1/3rd scale robot. These characters are made up as I make them. It is built on a metal armature made from camera mount ball joints. These things are ready to go and pretty strong and great for posing the model.
Over the armature are limb castings of my other 1/3rd scale robots. This gives me the sizes I want and all the joints I have made earlier. Over this then is a series of wooden boxes to build up the body shape.
Once all the boxes are built, it is then a process of cutting them back to allow as much movement as possible and access to the screws locking the joints. I have to get an Allen key in to unlock them and move the joint.
My bench gets very quickly covered in kit parts trying to find the right piece. A lot of the design is driven by what pieces I have to detail these things and it would look very different if I had whole other kits to use.
This thing is large and so requires heavier structures to support it making the model very heavy. Covering it in kit parts makes the surface fragile so I try to have heavy parts around the outside to protect finer details.
This guy carries drones. The one in his chest is surveillance and weapons, the ones in his legs are basically self guided bombs. The legs fold around to hold themselves to the robot body then unfurl to flip around the right way when launched.
Part of the fun for me is to make the robot like a large model kit. It can completely come apart and screw together.
